Tapashi Devchoudhury

Tapashi Devchoudhury was introduced to yoga at an early age by her parents. While her father taught her asanas, her mother taught her subtleties of Hindu philosophy, Sanskrit mantras and their meanings. She has since had various trainings in different traditions to deepen her understanding of the human body and mind.

She teaches meditation, mantra chanting and asanas apart from more subtle yogic practices of energetic gestures (mudras) and locks (bandhas). Her yoga classes offer a taste of all of these in simple, meditative and fluid movements. Tapashi's style of teaching is a blend of very traditional hatha yoga with influences from the old tai-chi form. The Sanskrit word 'Yoga' is a noun meaning 'union', referring to a state of being. Tapashi believes that 'Yoga' cannot be taught, it can only be experienced. Her drop-in classes are aimed at making that experience accessible to the modern body and mind.
