Sequoia Henning

Sequoia’s life journey has been a continual evolvement of her spiritual development through the study and ongoing practice of yoga and healing. In her teenage years, Sequoia began to secretly study esoteric knowledge, joining a regular study group on the topics of chakras, meditation and crystal healing. Her growing interest in yoga and sound therapy branched out at the fresh, young age of 21, as she adventured on her first of many journeys to India.

Her life has been, and continues to be, a consistent cultivation of her spiritual development from her personal experiences, practice and passionate, consistent study. Sequoia’s teachings are influenced by eastern mysticism, the yogic teachings, and our collective conscious connection to the elements.

Sequoia’s yogic journey began with the very disciplined practice of the Iyenger tradition. After years of practicing the Iyengar lineage, she cultivated her own personal practice and discipline, which organically transformed her asana practice into a mixture of the Ashtanga and Hatha schools. Now, she teaches the traditional practice of Hatha yoga incorporating space for inner awareness and witnessing, which allows one to deepen inner connection beyond the physical body. She often includes the practices of humming, kriyas, bandhas and pranayama into her asana classes.

Sequoia’s passion for life was heightened through a personal self-healing journey from an illness. Now Sequoia shares through inspiration, encouragement, and self-empowerment healing to encourage others to re-remember that the power to change stems from the inside out: it all starts by cultivating love for one self, taking responsibility and having gratitude for life.

In her spare time, Sequoia loves to climb mountains, sing, dance, and commit random acts of kindness.

The love of sound healing was also a calling Sequoia had to follow, and studied mantras with Mata Gi, one of the main singers, at Pramath nikatan in Rishikesh, India. Her love for healing sounds, Mantra and Nada yoga continues. Over the years she has  studied with Tom Kenyon, Mitch Nuir, Gina Sala, Lisa Murphy, and other teachers in India. She has been leading Sound healing journeys and workshops for over ten years.

In 2006, she completed a three-month intensive and received her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate from Pyramid Yoga in Thailand

In 2008, she also wanted to learn more about the yogic breathing  known as pranayama, so she completed a one-month pranayama teachers training course with Shri.O. P. Tiwari at Kavaladhama yogic institute in India. The love for pranayama began.

Sequoia studied many different healing modalities, which allowed her to run a successful healing centre for eight years in Canada. She then got sick and healed herself naturally of chrons disease through the modalities she had been studying in previous years and applied them for her healing.

Regardless of what Sequoia is teaching her intention is always the same, to inspire and encourage others to listen to their inner wisdom within.

Sequoia taught with Tribe-yoga for 7 years offering international teacher trainings in India and Thailand.

In her spare time her passions include singing, ceremonies, climbing mountains, dancing, being in nature and commit random acts of kindness.

Sequoia now lives and teaches international yoga trainings, sound healing trainings and retreats. She shares her time between Bali, India and Canada.
